H And now she's been given one final warning make it work with her new sergeant DS Joseph Easter or she's out Her partner DS Joseph Easter is the handsome sueaky clean new member of the team But his nickname Holy Joe beli Gets a little boring at the beginning hence 4 stars instead of 5 The slow pace was mostly due to repeated examples of how unlikable the female main character was I probably would ve stopped reading when I felt I d had enough of her attitude but one of the reviews I d read said it would get better so I stuck it out I stll think the story would have been better without this weak attempt to make the character interesting The second half was much better even wth some holes in the plot I will sample the next book and if the main character is still a jerk I won t continue the series

Crime on the Fens: DI Nikki Galena, Book 1

Es his former life as a soldier He has an estranged daughter who blames him for everything that went wrong with their family Their adversary is a ruthless man who holds DI Galena responsible for his terrible disfigurement I thought this was really enjoyable easy read It came up as an recommendation and really appealed to me as I holiday regularly in East Anglia so know the feel of that area wellThe feeling on menace on the fens at night and in the estate where uite a lot of the action takes place are both developed wellThere are not too many key characters which I uite like in a book like this as it keeps the plot nice and easy to follow Only 4 stars for me as the characterisation after a good start seemed a little shallow but I will really look forward to seeing how the characters develop later in the seriesThe style etc reminded me a lot of the DI Nixon series written by Damien Boyd who sets his stories in North Somerset If you like one series I have no doubt you would like the other tooI will definitely carry on with the series I will load it onto my Kindle ready for my next East Anglian holiday Cheating for the Chicken Man know the feel of that area wellThe feeling on menace on the fens at night and in the estate where uite a lot of the action takes place are both developed wellThere are not too many The Last Runaway key characters which I uite like in a book like this as it On Tidy Endings keeps the plot nice and easy to follow Only 4 stars for me as the characterisation after a good start seemed a little shallow but I will really look forward to seeing how the characters develop later in the seriesThe style etc reminded me a lot of the DI Nixon series written by Damien Boyd who sets his stories in North Somerset If you like one series I have no doubt you would like the other tooI will definitely carry on with the series I will load it onto my Kindle ready for my next East Anglian holiday

DI Nikki Galena A police detective with nothing left to lose she's seen a girl die in her arms and her daughter will never leave the hospital again She's gotten tough on the criminals she believes did this to her Too toug Not only was this a good story but the locale the Fens was different and interesting and enhanced the story Never having heard of the area it had me running to Google to learn about it I very much like police procedurals in general and those in England in particular The central characters Nikki and Joseph are both out of the norm as well Yes there is the usual initial mistrust of the new partner and the eventual bonding but they both have different back stories that make them complex characters Their development is gradual and well done The mystery involved is also complex with a number of threads that are eventually tied up most satisfactorily One reviewer commented on poor editing and proofing I did not feel that they were problems at all and I am pretty picky about that failing unfortunately common in ebooks There were few instances when spell check failed the author substituting an incorrect word albeit became all be it but again it was little detraction I welcome a new author to the mystery sub genre and I plan to move on and download the next in the series

I'm not sure why one reviewer felt there was poor proofreading unless the British English and slang was mistaken for grammar and spelling err

Crime on the Fens came highly recommended by a fellow friend and book blogger so I thoroughly expected to enjoy it What surprised me a bit was just how much I did When the book opens Nikki Galena is a world class witch you know what I really mean and even though she has good reason to whirl through town like the Tasmanian Devil of Warner Brothers fame I wasn't going to be able to put up with her if she remai

This is the first book in the Fens series Since I was given the impression that the very last book was the first I've already read it So I experienced some trepidation that if I started from the very beginninng I'd be disappointed Not so This author hit her stride from the very first page and I look forward to reading the

I read mostly European mysteries and this one was only mediocre It does have a decent plot but the writing is not so great and the dialogue at times is very cliched So are the two main characters The brisk argumentative young female detective who has never disclosed that she has a daughter in a persistent vegetative state really and the sexy handsome ex special ops detective who never sees his ex wife or daughter Why do

I have been wanting to read this and finally got around to it A very compelling story with a lot of twists and turns due to a kidnapping murder and harrassment I love the main character of DI Nicki Galena who wants to rid the world of drugs and those who sell it She is one feisty cop who gets the job done A great read and very thought provo
