    Reads like a social commentary as opposed to a search for family connections I was disappointed there were still unanswered uestions at the end of the book Sad that we didn't really get to know her Nonna in any depth

    For someone who doesn’t read much memoir I seem to have read uite a few of them lately Rebecca Huntley’s The Italian Girl interested me because it’s billed as the story of an Italian woman who ran the family sugar cane farm while her husband was interned as an ‘enemy alien’ during WW2 As you can see from comments on my recent post about The Complete Book of Heroic Australian Women I’m interested

    I was really disappointed I found the author to be a bit flippant and overall it oscillated between being a pretty lightweight read or a text not delivering what it had promised
