A great series of books reimagining classic fairy tales into something a little different a lovely world setting with the existence of mages hidden within society At times the stories can feel a little clichéd and as you go through the series the nature of 'magic' and individual relationships with it seems to change for no explained reason but nonetheless these are well written books that tend to build tension slowly and like the fairy tal

Woman doctor as she searches for the secret behind the sorcery in her blood This is the first of Mercedes Lackey s Elemental Masters series Although there are often connections between the books in this series it is not essential to read them in chronological order but I was trapped by this first one and have been eagerly grabbing the rest as they have been published This story centers on a doctor from India working in Edwardian London dealing with echos from her Indian culture As always with Mercedes Lackey s books the characters and settings are vividly described so you are drawn into their lives and get to know them and believe in them There are some pretty grim moments but they are essential to the story so bear with them As you would expect the doctor triumphs in the end but her adventures along the way will keep you glued to her story
